Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) designed with a smaller engine and an on-board energy storage system. The smaller engine allows the vehicle to achieve better fuel economy and fewer emissions. The integration of technology into a hybrid electric vehicle configuration is one of the most promising ways to comply with fuel-economy and emissions legislation. Electric cars are a serious alternative to petrol, thanks in large to their impressive range and increasing national network of chargers.

Charging electric car is simple, just plug it in to a suitable power source. Many drivers choose to charge their cars overnight. A Wall-box is more powerful than an ordinary household socket. There are grants available to help with the installation costs. The UK charging infrastructure has changed substantially in the past 12-months. While you need to factor in more time to top up an EV, the basic process isn’t all that dissimilar. What’s more, there are thousands of charging stations situated in convenient locations and on major truck roads throughout UK. It’s worth noting while many services require and account and payment details, as part of Road to Zero initiative, UK Government recently called for all newly installed rapid or higher powered charging points to be fitted with contactless bank card readers. Electric costs vary, some venues such as hotels and shopping centres give power away free, but most posts costs around £1.50/hour. Rapid charging stations are generally more expensive, reflecting the fact that they can charge your battery in a shorter time. These sites at motorway service stations will cost £3 to connect for 45 minutes, plus an additional 30p for each kWh of electric. Prices will vary depending upon supply.

For Travel outside your network you can access one of the websites like ZAP Map or Open Charge which list all public chargers across the UK and provide specific information about equipment on offer, the cost to plug in, and the operational status of every charging facility. We recommend taking precaution and checking ahead of your arrival to a charging station to make sure they’re functional and suited to the vehicle you’re driving, unless there are multiple options in the area.
